Other types of diseases can be caused by unwanted stress. Psychological problems such as anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder may be caused by stress and depression. Stress can also be linked to substance abuse. Research suggests that the number of people who use illicit drugs, alcohol and tobacco to increase their stress. These compounds are useful in the treatment of stress, but a temporary consolation, leading to long-term destruction.
